Two forms of God's name are used here El Shadday the God Almighty and Jehovah the national form so reverent that it was not verbally pronounced. At this point these names are known by the Hebrews in terms of how He had spoken to their fore fathers and the future promise He had made; His more tangible connection to them was just now beginning to be brought forth.
