From index@THEOLOGYGLOSSARY.txt@
CEREMONIAL LAW –– those OldCovenant commandments which regulated rituals and symbolic actions pertaining to the redemption of God's people and their separation from the unbelieving world, rather than prescriptions about matters which were intrinsically moral
From index@THEOLOGYGLOSSARY.txt@
COVENANT –– a mutually binding compact between God and His people, sovereignly transacted by the Lord, wherein a promise is made by God which calls for trust on the part of His people and entails obligations of submission which are sanctioned by blessings and curses
From index@THEOLOGYGLOSSARY.txt@
COVENANT THEOLOGY –– the position that all of the post-fall covenants made by God are essentially one, centering on God's gracious promise in Jesus Christ, with each successivecovenant expanding on previous ones, rather than disgarding them or running parallel to the others; the covenants prior to Christ were marked by anticipation and administered by foreshadows, while the fulfillment or substance was found in Christ's person and redemptive work, establishing the NewCovenant today
From index@THEOLOGYGLOSSARY.txt@
DISPENSATION –– a distinct administration of God's covenantal relation with man or the age characterized by such
From index@THEOLOGYGLOSSARY.txt@
JUDAIZERS –– a Jewish heretical party in the early church which held that, in addition to faith in Christ, one must conform to Jewish customs (e.g., the ceremonial law of circumcision, the OldCovenant festivals) in order, through such self-effort and law-works, to be justified and sanctified
From index@THEOLOGYGLOSSARY.txt@
RESTORATIVE LAW –– those OldCovenant commandments which regulated rituals and symbolic actions pertaining to the restoration of sinners to God's favor and their separation as God's redeemed people from those still under His wrath (see "ceremonial law")
From index@THEOLOGYGLOSSARY.txt@
SEPARATION PRINCIPLES –– those truths about the separation of God's people from sin and the unbelieving world which were symbolized or taught by certain ceremonial laws of the OldCovenant (e.g., the distinction between clean and unclean meats, the prohibition of mixing seeds or types of cloth)

NewCovenant - GoldenChapters
From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Exodus:1
EXODUS - The name means "going out" or departure". While it refers to one of the most important events of the book, the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, other highly significant events are also found here, such as the oppression of the Chosen People in Egypt, the flight and call of Moses, and God’scovenant with the nation Israel at Sinai - an experience climaxed by His giving of the moral law (Ten Commandments) through Moses to the people. A code of secular laws is also included, and the latter part of the book contains an elaborate description of the sacred Ark of theCovenant and its ten (tabernacle), God’s place of dwelling among His people.
From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Numbers:1
NUMBERS - The name of this book originated from the two numberings of the people related in it: the first at Sinai in the second year of the Exodus and another on the plains of Moab opposite Jericho in the 40th year. A better title is the one give by the Hebrew themselves, Bemidhbar ( "In the Wilderness"), for it describes the locale of the major events of the book. In all these events, the writer sees the guiding hand of God, sustaining, delivering, and keepingcovenant with His people, as He prepares them for entrance into the land promised first to Abraham ( Genesis:12:1 ).
From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Deuteronomy:1
DEUTERONOMY - The final book of the Pentateuch derives its English name from the Greek work deuteronomion, meaning the "second law", or the "law repeated". Deuteronomy is essentially Moses’ farewell address(es) to a new generation in which he summons them to hear the law of God, to be instructed in the application of its principles to the new circumstances awaiting them, and to renew intelligently thecovenant God had made with their fathers - acovenant that must be faithfully observed as the condition of God’s blessings upon them in the Promised Land.
From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Joshua:1
JOSHUA - This book serves as the connecting link between the Pentateuch and the later historical books; it name is derived from the principal character, Joshua. Chapters 1 to 23 describe the conquest of the land and it division among the tribes of Israel. In the final chapters ( Joshua:23-24 ), Joshua, somewhat after the fashion of Moses, exhorts the people in a series of farewell addresses "to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses," and solemnly challenges them to the renewal of theircovenant commitment to God.
From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Jeremiah:1
JEREMIAH - Jeremiah was God’s spokesman during the decline and fall of the southern kingdom, Judah. Among the Prophets not one had a more difficult task than that of standing alone for God in the midst of the apostasy of his own people, and not one who bares his soul to his reader as does Jeremiah. Although Jeremiah announced the coming destruction of Judah, he looked beyond this judgement to a day when religion, no longer national, would be individual and spiritual. This new kind of religion would result from God’s "newcovenant" with His people.
From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Malachi:1
MALACHI - The name of the last book of the Old Testament and of the Prophet whose oracles it contains. Malachi ( from Hebrew meaning "my messenger") is an invaluable source concerning the Judaean Jews during the Persian period. Two themes are predomination: the sin and apostasy of Israel ( Malachi:1-2 ); and the coming judgment upon the faithless, with blessings promised for those who repent ( Malachi:3-4 ). The growing Messianic expectation in the Old Testament is apparent in Malachi by the announcement of God’s "messenger of thecovenant", by whose coming Israel will be purified and judged; and of the return of the Prophet Elijah who will proclaim the Day of the Lord.

index:GOOGLESURVEYQUOTES GoogleSurveyViolence This does not do away with the very troubling issue of violence in the passage, but it's helpful for me to concentrate on what it's saying about thecovenant between God and His people-- that it is not simply a contract between political allies or a King and his subordinates-- but that it is more akin to marriage.

BibleDivorce An important factor contributing to the alarming escalation of divorce among Christians is the growing acceptance of the societal view of marriage as a social contract, governed by civil laws, rather than as a sacredcovenant, witnessed and guaranteed by God Himself.

BibleDivorce Malachi strongly emphasizes that divorce violates not only God's original plan for marriage but also the sacred marriagecovenant to which the Lord Himself is a witness.

BibleDivorce This interpretation may be grammatically possible, but it seems rather unusual because it is based on a rather uncommon inclusive usage of the word parektos, usually translated "except for." This inclusive interpretation is based upon what Bruce Vawter calls "linguistic acrobatics," which turns "except" into "even including."16 It must be granted, however, that this interpretation does harmonize with the immediate context where Jesus rejects the Mosaic provision for divorce by pointing back to God's original plan for marriage as a permanentcovenant.

BibleDivorce Although divorce publicly declares that a marriage no longer exists, other covenantal relationships resulting from the marriage remain, such as the nurture and support of children and extended family ties.

BibleDivorce So, it was not surprising that, early in His ministry, Jesus expressed His opinion regarding this one particular aspect of the divorce laws, i.e., the controversy that surrounded the word "uncleanness." Thus, His NewCovenant proclamation decreed that only fornication, i.e., spiritual and/or sexual immorality, was justification for a divorce, thereby implying that mere displeasure over trivial matters of life were not.

BibleDivorce Under such circumstances, then, she would be free to remarry because divorce by its very nature, i.e., termination of the marriagecovenant or contract, makes that marriage contract null and void.

BibleMarriage He just reminds them and us that God designed marriage to be the closestcovenant to Hiscovenant with us and that the two come together as one flesh, what God has joined together let no man seperate.

BibleMarriage We affirm the sanctity of the marriagecovenant that is expressed in love, mutual support, personal commitment, and shared fidelity between a man and a woman.

BibleMarriage The first major step in a Jewish marriage was betrothal.1 Betrothal involved the establishment of a marriage covenant. There he would negotiate with the father of the young woman to determine the price (mohar) that he must pay to purchase his bride.3 Once the bridegroom paid the purchase price, the marriage covenant was thereby established, and the young man and woman were regarded to be husband and wife.4 From that moment on the bride was declared to be consecrated or sanctified, set apart exclusively for her bridegroom.5 As a symbol of the covenant relationship that had been established, the groom and bride would drink from a cup of wine over which a betrothal benediction had been pronounced.6 After the marriage covenant had been established, the groom would leave the home of the bride and return to his father's house.

BibleMarriage There in the privacy of that place they would enter into physical union for the first time, thereby consummating the marriage that had been covenanted earlier.14

BibleMarriage In the same manner as the Jewish bridegroom came to the bride's home for the purpose of obtaining her through the establishment of a marriagecovenant, so Jesus came to earth for the purpose of obtaining the Church through the establishment of acovenant.

BibleMarriage Parallel to the custom of the Jewish groom and bride entering into physical union after their arrival at the groom's father's house, thereby consummating the marriage that had been covenanted earlier, Christ and the Church will experience spiritual union after their arrival at His Father's house in heaven, thereby consummating their relationship that had been covenanted earlier.

BibleMarriage During the time of separation between the establishment of the marriagecovenant and the coming of the bridegroom to take his bride, it was possible for the Jewish bride to commit adultery by giving herself to another man.20 In like manner it is possible for believers today to commit spiritual adultery against Christ before He returns to take His Church.

BibleMarriage In any event, it should be recognized by biblical students (and those wishing to abide by the principles of the scriptural revelation) that marriage in biblical times was more a legal agreement between the parents of a young man and woman than an emotional and independentcovenant made by the young couple themselves.

BibleMarriage For Jews, the marriagecovenant symbolically represents thecovenant between God and his people, Israel.

BibleMarriage In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("LDS Church"; see also Mormon), "Celestial Marriage" is a sacredcovenant between a man, a woman and God performed by a priesthood authority in the temples of the Church.

BibleMarriage Eternal Marriage is legally recognized, but unlike other civil marriages, Eternal Marriage is intended to continue into the afterlife after the resurrection if the man and woman do not break their covenants.
