akjvMatthew:1 @ ENGLISH: TITLE: American King James Version DESCRIPTION: This is a new translation of the Bible, based on the original King James Version. It is a simple word for word update from the King James English. I have taken care to change nothing doctrinally, but to simply update the spelling and vocabulary. I have not changed the grammar because that could alter the doctrine. RIGTHS: I am hereby putting the American King James version of the Bible into the public domain on November 8, 1999. emtvMatthew:1 @ ENGLISH: TITLE: English Majority Text Version DESCRIPTION: Welcome to the third edition of The English Majority Text Version (EMTV) of the Holy Bible. This latest edition has Greek explanatory notes throughout the Bible, to aid the reader in understanding the meanings in some select places of the original Koine Greek. Also, the third edition finds itself closer to the Robinson/Pierpoint printed edition of the Byzantine majority text, rather than the Hodges/Farstad text, which the EMTV was translated from. You will notice these differences in John 7:53-8:11, as well as the entire book of Revelation. The English Majority Text Version draws from the work of both Dr.’s Hodges and Farstad, and their text, “The Greek New Testament According to the Majority Text,” as well as from Dr. Wilbur Pickering, ThM. PhD., and the EMTV has incorporated his hard work in the field of producing evidence of just what does constitute a majority reading, and, as a result of his work, and the work of others, John 7:53-8:11, and the book of Revelation reflect these variant readings. This is one of the great things about having a Bible that is translated from the majority of the trustworthy Byzantine manuscripts that are in existence—the much greater probability of accuracy. On the other side of the fence, most modern Bibles are translated from a few scant manuscripts (literally), and more often than not they do not even agree with each other. Not so with a Bible that is translated out of the majority! The experts in linguistics who have put these readings together, and diligently compared the manuscripts, had hundreds and hundreds of manuscripts to compare. It is my prayer that this work will bring honor to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to our God and Father; because all of this, all that we do, we do to know Him better, and to better understand His word, which He has given to mankind. “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. (Prove 30:5,6). Peace of Christ to you all. kjv@Leviticus:1 LEVITICUS - This book was so named because it treats of laws of service and worship of special importance to the Tribe of Levi. It has been aptly called "the Handbook of the Priests". Many basic precepts of the New Testament are foreshadowed in this book, such as the seriousness of sin in God’s sight, the necessity of atonement for sin, the holiness of God, and the necessity of a mediator between God and man.

From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@1Samuel:1 1SAMUEL - These books were named after Samuel, not only because he is the principal figure in the first part, but also because he anointed the two other principal characters, Saul and David. Originally a single book which was divided when translated into Greek, the books of Samuel cover a period of time in Israel’s history from the birth of Samuel to the close of the reign of David. First Samuel presents the transition from Israel’s judges to the monarchy. Second Samuel deals almost exclusively with the history of David and presents a vivid picture of the theocratic monarchy in which the king represents God’s rule over the people.

kjv@Job:1 JOB - So named from Job, its chief character, the book deals with an ageless question, one that is puzzling to every generation - the problem of human suffering, particularly the affliction of the righteous. The reader is given an account of the sufferings of the pious Patriarch Job, of the argument carried on between Job and his friends as to thecause of his sufferings, and finally, of the solution to his difficulty,. The book’s principal aim is to refute the popular view that all suffering is the result of sin in the life of the sufferer.

From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Philipians:1 PHILIPIANS - In this letter, which is a message of joy, Paul expresses his gratitude for the Philippians’ love and material assistance. The Epistle is uniquely significant because of its presentation of the humility of Jesus. Its practicality is also observed in Paul’s advice to Euodia and Syntyche.

From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Colossians:1 COLOSSIANS - The Colossian letter is well known for its doctrine as well as for its brevity. In the letter, Paul insists upon the Lordship of Christ. Colossians has come under recent scrutiny because of its references, implied or actual, to incipient Gnosticism, a growing heresy in the Church.

From index@BIBLEBOOKSUMMARY.txt@
kjv@Revelation:1 REVELATION - This last book of the Bible identifies itself as "the revelation of Jesus Christ", and its author is designated "his servant John" who was exiled to the Greek island of Patmos because of his faith. Traditionally, John is identified with the author of the Fourth Gospel. Addressed to seven historical churches in Asia Minor, the Book of Revelation was written to warn against spiritual indifference and to elicit courage under persecution. Because of the extensive use of symbolism and picturesque imagery, its interpretation has posed many problem for the student of the Bible. While recognizing the historical situation (Roman persecution) that elicited this writing, many interpreters look upon it as a prophecy depicting events that were to take place at the end of the age. The ultimate victory of Christ is the dominant theme of this book.

BibleDivorce Matthew reports Jesus' reply: "He Jesus said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted youto divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.'"

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Another way of expressing the framework of these words, is that Jesus was reminding them, that without a just-cause for divorcing, it is (and was) not lawful (moral) to divorce and remarry without committing sin (Remember this is the same account as Matthew records).

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Jesus acknowledged that the divorce process, itself, is historically and morally irrelevant (not essential) to the primary morality of "just-cause" basis for a right to divorce:

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce To make sure a reader understands Jesus' replies correctly, it is helpful to remember once again that this is the same event that Matthew records (which reveals that Jesus was not ruling out a just-cause right to divorce nor was He ruling out a right to remarry upon divorce).

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Jesus' reply in the house is exactly what the reader expects within the logical consistency of His reply to the earlier question regarding divorce rights that He had stated to the Pharisees; divorcing and remarrying is adultery against the present spouse unless the divorce had been for "just-cause."

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Jesus could have used the Greek word, "moicheia defined, "adultery"~ if He were teaching that adultery is the only "just-cause" basis for divorce.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce It follows that within this context of His teaching that while there was NO divorce "RIGHT "for merely ANYCAUSE, (and never had been) Mark's account must be read as Jesus explaining to them that if a man or woman divorces his/her spouse (and remarries) without a just-cause...then the man or woman who had divorced his/her spouse without a just-cause, was committing adultery against that spouse.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Further, the implications of Pauls response to his admonition to remain unmarried or be reconciled within this divorced situation supports the concept that to divorce for no just-cause reason ( as it frees the spouse to remarry), places the burden of a quick resolution for reconciliation upon the spouse who left the marriage without just-cause.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Paul's letters provide further support of his understanding of the teachings of Jesus regarding a just-cause basis for divorce and remarriage (i.e., that remarriage becomes an automatic right upon divorce)

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Paul speaks of a divorce right centering upon immoral choices within marriage (onecause being a divorce via abandonment of a marriage through an unjust divorce action);

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce By Paul using this word by noting the divorced spouse, was "NOT" under "dooloo," bondage he provides a statement that this was a divorce by a spouse leaving for no just-cause and he was speaking clearly that the remaining, now non-married spouse is NOT under "dooloo" --- to such unjust servile obligation (bondage).

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce The Hebrew text in this place uses the word "yasa" (tocause to go out) rather than the normal term "salah (to send away, to dismiss, to divorce). It is probable that the scribe was recommending marital separation, not divorce.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Many churches are as lax in their divorce laws as were the ancient Pharisees who allowed divorce for "everycause."

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Did Jesus, restricting divorce to onecause, bind together men and women who are unhappily married?

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce In fact, after experiencing first-hand the pain and suffering divorce causes, who wouldnt say: I hate divorce!?

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Some teach, like the ancient Pharisees, that the Bible allows divorce and remarriage for "everycause," while others maintain that the Bible prohibits divorce and remarriage under any circumstance.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Divorce is a grievous sin which God hates because it represents a betrayal of life's most intimate companion, a betrayal profoundly affecting the well-being of the family and community.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Would Christ teach that our righteousness must exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees and then side with one party of the Pharisees by saying that a man should not divorce his wife except for thecause of unfaithfulness?

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce This interpretation may be grammatically possible, but it seems rather unusual because it is based on a rather uncommon inclusive usage of the word parektos, usually translated "except for." This inclusive interpretation is based upon what Bruce Vawter calls "linguistic acrobatics," which turns "except" into "even including."16 It must be granted, however, that this interpretation does harmonize with the immediate context where Jesus rejects the Mosaic provision for divorce by pointing back to God's original plan for marriage as a permanent covenant.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce First, divorce is forbidden because it violates God's intention that marriage be a permanent union of two persons.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Second, remarriage after divorce is adultery because divorce does not dissolve the marriage union.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Implementing the "family law act of 1970" caused the divorce rate to jump almost 40% in just one year.

From index@GOOGLEQUOTESISSUES.txt@
BibleDivorce Under such circumstances, then, she would be free to remarry because divorce by its very nature, i.e., termination of the marriage covenant or contract, makes that marriage contract null and void.
