Today's readings both deal with the revealing of men's hearts. In the case of early Israel the need for giving God the first fruits due and one man's disobeidience to that. Many hearts melted upon the resultent defeat. The second reading, the prophecy of Simeon declares how Jesus would be sent to reveal the hiddden intents of many aheart, how His presence be the downfall of a great many. Just as it is today.
