The FaithOfJesus2 Daily Devotional

kjv@Revelation:14:12 @ Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

( FaithOfJesus thread begun by pcarr:RandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Matthew:7:15 @ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

kjv@Matthew:7:16 @ Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

kjv@Matthew:7:17 @ Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

kjv@Matthew:7:18 @ A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

kjv@Matthew:7:19 @ Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

kjv@Matthew:7:20 @ Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

kjv@Matthew:7:21 @ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

kjv@Matthew:7:22 @ Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

kjv@Matthew:7:23 @ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Note: Let's review the course of this sermon by our developing context so far: A calling to a blessed people made of the poor of self spirit/meek/righteousness hungry/blood purified/opposed for their belief in Jesus, made in Him to be a salt/light unable to be hidden, exceeding by His power the righteousness of even the most humanly righteous (people that even by their righteousness can't control their anger let alone murderous intentions/lusts let alone adulteries, who exceed even the legally allowed allowances placed on the hardness of their hearts, who are unable to be trusted in their lofty oaths/unbalanced in their judgments/hypocritical in their religious observances, who continue down the wide path to destruction despite all that they most zealously intend), those called to a much different narrow path to complete salvation. What next then? Two trees, each incapable of producing each other's fruit.

What is man believing/doing?:

The key subject now is false prophets; some prophets that may even be claiming to speak for Jesus, prophets that will not make it past His judgment.

First thing to consider is that the masses are generally followers, tending to follow whatever to where ever given an enticing reason. The evidence of this fact even in this so called enlightened generation is overwhelming. The wide path is the wide diverse path because that is largely the direction that they are being lead. Divide and conquer does not have to be one continuous assault, it can be a grand variety of smaller seemingly unassociated items as long as they point the intended away from God out towards self determination. Likewise, self determination does not have to be original to each participant as the collective is more likely to gravitate to one leader's self determination and participate in that.

The first differentiation as to who these prophets are is their fruit. Jesus is not looking for any fruit, notice all the fruit that He passes by in His teaching, He is looking for a fruit that can only be produced when it abides in Him on His vine. The opposite of His vine is described as a mere thorns/thistle. The majority of us would be looking outwardly for any fruit at all, anything of personal benefit, anything tasty sweet to our sensibilities; it is still the fruit of a thistle no matter what we try to imagine it. Perhaps the addict would be encouraged to become more self determined to overcome his addiction, maybe the struggling mom become determined to be a better mom. The eventual fruit of this is that these individuals become more and more self determined therefore self empowered to become better more successful people. They become more about self, more self determined, often more about how Jesus can make them more themselves and less about crucifying their self at the foot of His cross to take upon His truest nature. Their thoughts, their reasonings and justifications, their actions and therefore their own seed laden fruit becomes that of the wayward prophet's weed; it is still upon the wide/diverse path of destruction even though it may have some temporal and personal benefit.

You would think that this extreme difference would outwardly be most obvious. It is rather hidden under a cloak very similar to the true disciples. I almost said believer, but both trees are likely believing in "a Jesus", disciples however are abiding on a much different vine and root.

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

The wide path is irresistible without the irresistible calling of Jesus. They are falling for this because they do want to have the resemblance of what Jesus has to offer without having to abide in Him in the sense that new much opposed path is really calling to go. Whether they are of the Law or a law unto themselves the law is only showing them that they are not on the abiding path they are on the self determined manufactured path along with everybody else.

dict:torrey prophets, false

Thorns and thistles do not/cannot bare fruit only more of themselves. They are extremely common and very easily spread even if unintentional. They take over a productive field and render it useless. They are part of the original curse kjv@Genesis:3:18, choke off the word kjv@Matthew:13:7, spoken of those once enlightened kjv@Hebrews:6:8, as a crown inflicted pain and insult to our Lord kjv@Matthew:27:29

Paul was followed by false prophets who would seek to take over His church plants as soon as he left. They could produce no fruit of their own so they would graft themselves into his, slowly turning his church members against him.

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. false sheep appear harmless to the majority, those that warn against and expose them as they are appear as trouble makers/judgmental
  2. many a well intended people intend for/pursue the flash and wonder, but will have little to do with the daily grunt work of going about His will, much of which intensely sets us apart from the others
