The FaithOfJesus2 Daily Devotional

kjv@Revelation:14:12 @ Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

( FaithOfJesus thread begun by pcarr:RandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Matthew:6:25 @ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

kjv@Matthew:6:26 @ Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

kjv@Matthew:6:27 @ Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

kjv@Matthew:6:28 @ And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin;

kjv@Matthew:6:29 @ And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

kjv@Matthew:6:30 @ Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

kjv@Matthew:6:31 @ Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

kjv@Matthew:6:32 @ (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

kjv@Matthew:6:33 @ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

kjv@Matthew:6:34 @ Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Note: We have previously entertained the consideration that when men of various faiths come to the same conclusion about what Jesus is saying, should we hold the same conclusion we would be manufacturing it from our own righteousness just as they are instead of taking it as God's revelation only now in Jesus. The question today becomes to whom Jesus is addressing "you". Is it all men who wish to better their own manufactured righteousness? Is it the few that give themselves to be under the influence of HIS as HE is choosing to reveal it? The same question can be asked of the teachings Jesus has already given. Is the "you" anyone with the notion? Is the "you" some one of a specific heart and determination? For instance the single eyed servant of one particular master spoken in the previous passage?

What is man believing/doing?:

"Therefore" in a sermon always directs us back to the previous proclamation. The "therefore" therefore is the consideration of the single eye laying treasures up in heaven. If money (and the service to) were the answer to a great many decisions why then would we still be taking much thought/worried/anxious/planning obsessively for the cares of this world? The answer is almost an insult to the notion of serving mammon. The answer is the mammon is not the problem, the problem exists even in the presence of mammon, likely was at issue even before the mammon was decided on being served. The problem is our insecure and distrusting nature especially as it concerns God. It is something that we feel we have to take care of because God has been slacking off I guess. Moths and rust were another "therefore", our issues long predating and out living them as well.

We said that this people were going to be shown nearly unanimously to have chosen to serve another master, reject and kill aside this Jesus the better master. In effect what they are choosing is to continue their worry over tomorrows food and raiment and security, tangible and real things no doubt, issues however far exaggerated, far beyond content and satisfaction, perpetuated falsely by obeying what is right in their own eye. This is chosen over the very life of Jesus and the image of massively righteous God being revealed in Him. Quite a choice made, eh?

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

We must take caution putting excessive blame on this illustrated people. Jesus at this point was still freshly and progressively being presented. Yes they should have seen it, but no maybe they could not yet. What we must be mindful of is that we today are not them. We are at a point where Jesus has been fully revealed. We are at the point where the testimony of billions of others have testified to His glory. What should be said of us in our day if we have all of this excess of information and we still choose to put the person and substance Jesus away? if we still choose our manufactured righteousness (even righteousness presumed to be in His name) over what He by the Holy Spirit is reproving direct in/of us?

To ask what is making man to do this we really need to be asking ourselves "why do we do this"? "What influence is motivating us"?

The many examples we have of the Christ transformed people we have like the Apostle Paul, who knew how to be content in all things, rich in poverty and poor in abundance.

The seeking first of kingdom and righteousness of God is what is being commanded of the disciple. It is much the same as saying what we've been suggesting all along, importing the exceedingly influential righteousness of God and crucifying our dependence upon our own manufactured right in our own eye mindset. This is not only to happen at the moment of our spiritual conversion, it is to happen daily at each and every decision and action. Paul would describe it as "presenting one's self a daily living sacrifice" "not conforming to this world, but being transformed by the renewing of one's mind" kjv@Romans:12:1-2.

The objective of a spiritual life is not being free from daily cares, the objective is to live spiritually. Spirituality is not the absence of worry, it is the ability to operate in this life highly influenced and empowered by Spirit-filled means. Operating openly and in all daily things in this manner works to balance even eliminate many effects of these obsessive/destructive worries. The insecurity/distrust that mammon would have been falsely serving/perpetuating is now being replaced by the security and trust God influenced spirituality is serving.

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. If the first observance was the eye or focus and what our will pays service to, the secondary observance is that the eye/focus while technically is on mammon, the literal absorption is more practically the things mammon is believed to bring (food/drink/raiment/shelter/stature). One can say Mammon is not their god, but the majority of their daily pursuit is exactly that. How then can it be said that it is not served?
  2. The righteousness of the true God simply is not a part of our typical consideration. We look at the notion of such as being His role as enforcer and punisher, not as His role being all right things and further all things in the right/perfect balance.
