Previous Context: devotion:Matthew:2:13-18

What is God doing?

What is man doing?

Note that there is not one person likely at that time that is keeping any track of all this that is being fulfilled presently, these things will be collected later by Matthew and others as a larger body of evidences. Certainly, no one then knowing these many prophecies would have foreseen that this is way these prophecies would be fulfilled. It is not until all of these things are completed and collected and analyzed side by side in the light of the final death and resurrection ascension and empowerment of the Apostles by the Holy Spirit that the overwhelming preponderance of proofs state the full case for Christ.

What does this passage tell us about the about the commands and faith of Jesus that saints are to keep/guard?

There are things God plants in our lives, a wife and children for instance, that draw us towards obedience. We may not know where God will lead us next, but being responsible for other dear ones and having that particular determination to see them through adds a further level of sheer trust if not desperation to our walk that might not be as present if were just for us alone. We tend to seek deeper, to ask longer, to sacrifice that much richer, to persevere that much stronger when we are connected and engaged and responsible to and for others. That is why so many saints are grown out of strong congregations and so many vibrant marriages; in a sense they have to be.
