Matthew:13:36-43 The Parable of the Weeds Explained
Previous Context: devotion:Matthew:13:31-35 The Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast
In my previous attempt to explain this parable devotion:Matthew:13:24-30 I stated that the good seed was the word of God, not people per se. I believe that still in the sense that Satan cannot create anything of his own - especially living beings, but he can blind the hearts of those beings God has already created in a way that they are exclusively his. In the Garden this began by the subtle twist of words. In the opposite case the children of the kingdom need to be born again of incorruptible seed that being the word of God which lives and abides for ever.
What is God doing?
"The good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one"
- Let's consider the importance of God's word making the already living being what it is to become classified as:
- kjv@1Peter:1:23 @ Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
- kjv@James:1:18 @ Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
- kjv@John:1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
So then it is the word and Christ presence inside of the man/woman that makes him/her to be a child of the kingdom. It is that very same child of God that is planted into the field/world not that he/she was not already physically there; it is the new spiritual life residing within them that until receiving Christ has not occurred. The child of God is essentially the carrier of the word of God that the sower has planted. So this is what God HIMSELF has done sending the sower to sow the carrier seed, what then about what the enemy the devil has planted following that?
Given that this is a second planting that has happened after the first and that the unwanted tare gives every bit the appearance of the wheat up until the point late of it's coming to fruit, we should be of the frame of mind that this is Satans' delayed response to what has occurred because of the work of Jesus and what His testimony is has begun to produce in these first receivers of His word, that the two plantings too closely resemble each other to the dispassionate eye. Also considering that roots of the two being intertwined are of such a primary concern to the owner, we should add that damage at this point can be done to the owners valuable crop as a whole by removing the tare preemptively before the harvest. One must ask "damage... how so"?
What is man doing?
I feel it safe to say that to the dispassionate eye the two separate plants are perceived as one in the same plant and that this common perception is not directed in any favorable way. It is said that to the defiled of heart nothing is pure nkjv@Titus:1:15. More than toward any other plant this means that they see the good seed (for even raising the notion) as exceedingly defiled; their proof is the identical looking, but fruitless tare in our midst. But removing the tare in their mind's eye does not resolve the situation either, it damages their perception of the good wheat even more.
If we add to this dilemma the additional information from the Parable of the Sower devotion:Matthew:13:1-23 , we can further see complication in the fact that not all the good seed sown is coming to a full unlabored fruition.
What does this passage tell us about the about the commands and faith of Jesus that saints are to keep/guard?
"His disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field"
Jesus is explaining this to them privately away from the original crowd because they asked Him to; unto them it was given to know. To the others it was either not yet their time or they did not express the interest of knowing. I am not sure that even with this additional information that the disciples yet knew much more than they did, although they do now have additional details to help process the eventual understanding. I cannot myself guaranty that I have any better understanding by this explanation either, the understanding of it is very much a process of constant and direct seeking and sincere inquiry; perhaps the number one attribute of a growing and productive child of God.
The explanation as far as I have been able to discern of it so far does however bring up some interesting considerations that could well be thought of when observing the dispassionate eye, the close proximity of our adversary words/living to ours, and the cunning savvy of our enemy using our Christ derived good image against us.
