The FaithOfJesus2 Daily Devotional

kjv@Revelation:14:12 @ Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

( FaithOfJesus thread begun by pcarr:RandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Matthew:2:19 @ But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

kjv@Matthew:2:20 @ Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel; for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

kjv@Matthew:2:21 @ And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

kjv@Matthew:2:22 @ But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee;

kjv@Matthew:2:23 @ And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Note: Previous context is suggesting an increasingly corrupting hand of influence the higher up we go. We have gone from a simple carpenter like Joseph and the complexity of his decision, to an iron fisted king like Herod the Great in the political vise grip of Rome, now to three kings.

What is man believing/doing?:

I find it interesting that Rome felt it advisable to divide the Jewish throne into three. It is not part of Jewish law and is unprecedented in the history Israel as best I can tell. Either they saw something in these three sons that spelled conflict and bloody rivalry or else they saw something in one son in particular that went against their ultimate plans and the frontier's safe keeping. Such is the nasty world of politics. Rome had made it policy in other countries to allow/accommodate (at least outwardly) the religious beliefs and cultures of their conquered minions. This is Jerusalem however; a religion and culture like they had never seen.

A vacant throne is much valued yet fearful thing. The playing deck gets reshuffled; often times more than once. Challengers to the throne fight, they confederate with strange bed fellows. One typically is not given to terms of best options for it is unobtainable, one is given to the best of the worst options. In this case, no matter the reasoning, Rome is given to the establishment of each of the three sons.

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

The influence upon Rome is very similar to the influences we have already charted all the way back to the forty-two generations through to the kingly line of David and on to Joseph. Right and wrong play second fiddle to what is politically possible, what the key players can be taught to settle with, what the people can be convinced is the most peaceful least costly uninterrupted path.

We often ask why God doesn't just eliminate the problem; it is as if HE is going around it and not actually dealing with it. In this particular action though God had telegraphed HIS move hundreds of years before the event was to even happen. How can it be said that HE is going around when HE has accomplished exactly what HE said HE was going to do? Besides, at this point HIS efforts are not to keep Israel going, the people have chosen this path, instead HIS efforts now are to present HIS anointed savior to them in time to shut the whole nation down, have them spread the seed of HIS message to the world at large both willingly and unwillingly.

Key Messages:

    What does this say about our present condition?
  1. Expectation is frequently that God goes ahead of us and eliminates obstacles, smoothing/leveling our course. Resistance is often seen as a sign of God leading us some other direction or us going wrong way. Obstacles removed do not mean obstacles don't return three fold.
  2. Consent is a pathway that leads to further consents. This is true not only referring to righteous matters but also wicked or passive.
