Puppy Linux is a small compact and well supported "Live CD" Linux OS distribution. For several years now it has gained favor and recognition amongst computer enthusiasts for its size, speed and reliability. Several specialized deriviative works such as ShepherdPupLinux have spun off of the main distribution calling themselves "puplets".
New preconfigured software is installed via a very efficient packaging system called a .pet.
Puppy boots direct from a live CD, runs completely in RAM memory, configures itself to most PC hardware, and saves any modifications and user data to a small compressed .sfs file located on any existing disk partition, even a thumb drive. No reformating, no installation (unless desired).
Puppy is perfect for traveling, perfect for even older hardware, perfect for handing out, a solid engine for an evangelical concept like ShepherdPupLinux to glide upon.
