kjv@Romans:12:4-8 Unity Utilization and Office

kjv@Romans:12:4 @ For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

kjv@Romans:12:5 @ So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

kjv@Romans:12:6 @ Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

kjv@Romans:12:7 @ Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

kjv@Romans:12:8 @ Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Many of you are thinking "how is all this gift and church body stuff going to help me out of my situation"?

Hopefully you've followed along with me enough to understand the points made so far in SelfHelpBible and SelfHelpBible1. Maybe you can already sense that the Bible is not just your typical secular or religious "self help shelf stuffer".

Now comes the meat of the matter which you may not expect reading this passage from a "self" perspective.

    Earlier in SelfHelpBible1 we were considering two primary focal points:
  1. kjv@Romans:12:3 the necessary sobriety of self.
  2. kjv@Romans:12:1 the gathering called brethren.

We considered how that the two of these produce an alternative perspective departing from common self helps, clarifying the matters of God's mercies, living sacrifice, transformation, and self sobriety.

It is too easy to intellectually agree with these concepts and then just leave them at that. It (transformation, proving His will) must be "presented" "lived", this Paul declares is "reasonable service", it is owed or expected.

This then where Paul proposes we center our focus going forward.

One Body in Christ

The more I think through this four verse passage the more peculiar it becomes.

Answer? Self was still at play.

I've concluded that they have not perceived the "Body" as behaving as one trusted one fluid entity and therefore they have spiritually resorted back to "self". In other words they have withheld their investment into the Body because the way "self" expects "Body" to act.

Thinking "Church Body" for many is a lot like thinking marionette; God pulls one string the hand should move, He pulls another the head should nod. The motions of the Body should be coordinated and fluid so we think. It should be obvious that God indeed is pulling the strings.

Because it does not appear at present to be this way, the conclusion we make is that God is not behind it. Self has successfully synthesized a image of "Body" that has very little basis in reality in order to escape from it's own reasonable service.

Paul is using a set of obvious practical daily applications and resultant measurements to otherwise prove that the Roman readers are not yet fully on-board. The same example can be used to illustrate this disconnect of believers even today.

So we know what "self" is going to think, that until the Church behaves in the fashion I deem fit this is as far as we need to go with this, that someday God will swoop down and clear this whole matter up for us.

I hold back, you hold back, we divide, we compartmentalize, we visualize that this is what it has to look like before we any up, we insist on our way or no way. Eventually the entire "Body" acts in the same manner.

I could say that the Church is largely apostate and God will have to adjust it just as he did frequently in the Old Testament. This not not my judgment to make however, and it should in no way stop me from doing as I have been exhorted by Paul.

Let us consider even that spiritually the process is exactly as it should be, a testing process of heart and soul and true selfless investment, literally a sorting of the wheat from the chaff.

If we are sincere in our living sacrifice to God it matters not who else says what and who else does what, it only matters what I say and do toward the fulfillment of this spiritual objective.

You would be wise to consider this meaty concept as you try to sort through your early belief formulations as well.
