(Thread begun by: RandyP)

kjv@2Peter:1:1 @ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

kjv@2Peter:1:2 @ Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

kjv@2Peter:1:3 @ According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

kjv@2Peter:1:4 @ Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Contextual Anchors - Foundations v1-4

We have already begun to consider present carnal realities along with various Christian spiritual concepts, spiritual fruit and fruitlessness. Let us continue.

What the Apostle is about to say is meant for a very specific audience only; "those who have obtained like precious faith with us". Your translation may have it "given the same faith equal to the apostles". Though any casual reader may inquire as to is meaning and use only they that "have obtained" are likely to receive the intended meaning. The reason for this exclusivity is simple: the "like precious" faith is not the type of faith that any man or women with or without faith by carnal means can attain to/manufacture, it is a faith and doing only possible because of and as directed by Jesus the Christ Risen Son of the Living God. If it could be done without Christ then anybody of any faith possibly could do it, but they cannot. Anything not from Christ is from self and anything done without such "obtained" faith is done from sin.

If this initial premise is true, all other premises and elements to follow must follow the same point of origin. For example, the VirtuousFaith KnowledgableVirtue etc.. Peter is soon to describe is not in anyway to be manufactured from out of self as we would carnally prefer, these are elements of Christ's increasing spiritual influence upon us. It is such a difficult concept and distinction to grasp that it will require much groundbreaking/foundational work. Any abundant fruit produced in us is a fruit derived and abiding in Christ.
