Test of table formatting in imaginative examples

Two Column page layout

This is a test of the PCARR wiki's table syntax to see how it responds to some fairly creative types of use. Here the syntax is being used to see if it can be used to create multiple text columns as one would see in a news paper. Text and or pictures could be used perhaps, multiple tables even to effect the visual presentaion of the wiki information. If tables can be used in this manner it would be helpful especially in potential publishing functionality either for printing or for web page layout. If this doesn't work, perhaps the syntax or wiki mechanism could be modified in order to make it work somehow.

The question is...does it work?

Yes it works...with the proper margin settings in the CSS file to create spacing. At fullscreen it almost works having enough separation. In a minimal frame width however it becomes harder and harder to see one column end the others start. This perhaps could be rectified in the CSS stylesheet padding and margin settings. The other option would be to widen the border on the wiki's table call. For this test I believe the cellpadding is set to 1. If I remember correctly there is a border or cellpadding option. If this works for two columns, then it must work for a three column layout as well! There does appears to be a difference in table width depending on whether the end of table syntax is on a newline (seems to put tables within tables).

./style/img/152.gif If text works then it is likely that pictures will work too. If pictures work then so too might other forms of markup including links faith ./style/img/152.gif
