Present and Transform - Application #7
For some people empathy just comes naturally. Not me!
Don't get me wrong, it is not that I don't feel empathetic, it is that I often feel uncomfortable or restricted. I just don't know what to say in emotional times. Is that what is important though?
Presenting empathy I find is different from sensing empathy.
I could leave it at "that is the way I am".. "that is my genetic make up".. "that is just the way guys are".., or I could beat myself up over it, or I could approach it step by step/little by little until I am better at it. The choice is mine I guess.
Empathy should rather be that chance that you're willing to take for another, that chance of being exposed or inconsequential or muttering in emotion. Empathy is a presenting yourself a living sacrifice.
God's mercy towards us shows a willingness to allow progression. As long as we start here and end there and not get side tracked, His patient persistence encourages and corrects, examines and occasionally overlooks in light of the overall goal.
It comes down to trust, and acknowledgment, and being softened enough in mind and heart to allow progress to come forth.
Empathy comes from directly from love. Weakness is strength, strength weakness. Imitation is not always flattery, sincerity and similitude is.
