Present and Transform - Application #9
This is the ground that we as Christians stand upon. To peaceably pursue the will of our Father, to love all others in emulation of the love that He has shown unto us, and to live our lives sacrificially to the intents and designs of His great mercy, to help others into the fold of their own will and choosing.
This would be held intelligent, rightful, and universally acceptable if we were dealing with intelligent and right men. The fact that they are not does not change our position.
There is both the conformity of these un-rightful men and the assumed conformity of those masses with less vehement conviction whom they seek to influence against us to consider in this proclamation.
What we do and say as Christians can certainly be used as flame by them to ignite the masses against us. What they do or say has very little consequence because they don't presume to guard the moral high ground.
At times Christians are their own worst enemy in this regard which brings me to a third point of consideration: the conformity of the church within itself.
If we are to engage ourselves peaceably in this world on the spiritual battlefield it must be on God's terms and not theirs.
God seeks a tight lean and mean effectual fellowship of soldiers to march specifically on His orders, not in dis-organized self determined individual guerrilla responses.
His orders are a multi-pronged multiple front campaign of doing what is right internally, being complete and fit and disciplined, established externally with a loving beneficial engagement with/provision to all civilians, a unshakable trust and confidence in His plan, and a humility and obedience of each body member.
God's mercy has been considerable towards us believers in this dark age. We have not at all done what He has asked. The profitable gain of the mercy given to us has been spent on our selves instead of re-invested into the "Body" and into others.
Living sacrifice assumes that this discrepancy in obligation has been substantially dealt with, that "reasonable service" is now being performed.
Living at Peace - Living Sacrifice
If you present yourself as peaceable, most everyone will perceive you as peaceable, especially when there is a obvious proven track record behind you to support your claim. God's way is designed to establish just that, organically, over the long term, individuals working collectively.
Skip these designed steps or do something foolish and out of character and you've set yourself (possibly your church body ) back considerably.
It is one thing being mindful of this to stand back and not invest yourself into any of the process, it is another thing being mindful of this to commit yourself fully into it; to firmly present yourself a living sacrifice.
