Abound Fruit Knowledge

kjv@2Peter:1:8 @ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The object here isn't to stuff as much information into our brains as possible, it is to put as much of this "relationship" as possible to use/influence in our lives; thus the word used is "abound". Combine this with the previous context of setting it up as a constant diligence across the board into all daily matters and the direction being pointed to is clear. If "these things" were a swimming stroke abounding would mean to swim forward in all things diligently coordinating the elements of this stroke.

Practical Aspects

"if these things be in you, and abound..."

How do we get "these things" to be in us and to get them to "abound"?

First thing first. Let us not forget that most important phrase in this sentence is "the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ". It is so easy to skip by or reverse the order of the most obvious fact that it is the knowledge of Jesus Christ that is producing the fruit and that this fruit is being produced is in these specific "like precious" areas (faith/virtue/temperance/patience/godliness/kindness/agape). It is after all the knowledge of Christ where the grace and peace exhorted is being multiplied. It is after all the knowledge of Him who called us to glory and virtue specifically through whom all things pertaining to life and godliness have been divinely given.

Know Christ and continue to know Him better and you will continue to grow abundance in these areas. Know Christ and continue to seek to apply His brand of knowledge and these areas will continue to grow and abound with the fruit of so wisely knowing Him. In other words abide.

How better do we get to know and have knowledge in Jesus?

Along with scripture and prayer the most obvious way is to give Him access into our daily lives, all the many areas good and bad in our life, allowing Him to begin His transformative work over these very same things; not just listening but applying what is being communicated by Him. You've heard it said "present yourselves a daily living sacrifice"? One way is to turn control over to what you know Him to be. You've heard it said "be transformed by the renewing of your mind"? One way is to not insist on what you think you know about an issue or cause, but allow Him to present to you what He actually knows to be true and right.

Your relationship to Jesus is the most important thing. It is through this working relationship and daily experience with Him that the God produced/directed areas of faith/virtue/gnosis/temperance etc... will be radically/spiritually transformed. These are the areas that no matter what your situation present or future a person thus transformed will be strong at to overcome. These areas in turn are the ripe fruit that will seed the fruits that will lift you out of the situations that you find yourself in and the half answers that until now you've attempted humanly to apply. In the terms of what we have already considered, this is the "partaking of His nature". In present terms it is the "abundance". In other verbiage it is the "abiding in".

Because the Holy Spirit is the engineer of this transformation, it is to be a transformation of these areas unlike one another man can obtain minus Jesus Christ front and center as Lord and Savior.

Like we have with kjv@2Peter:1, I am going to ask you to bookmark a three chapter section in your bible kjv@John:15 kjv@John:16 kjv@John:17 for your frequent revisiting. It reveals perhaps more about Jesus (this in Jesus' own words) than any other singular sequential reading. One can almost feed an entire life time learning of Him from this treasured and eventful passage. Eventually you are going to have to read the four gospels (Matthew Mark Luke and John) (several times over likely) if you haven't already.

As we become more familiar with Jesus, I would soon like us to become more familiar with the areas that He would most like to transform us in. We will get to that in short order ahead.
