Applications Of the Like Precious Faith

(begun by RandyP)

kjv@2Peter:1:1 @ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

This is the second section of three in this series. Please follow them in correct order.

  1. FoundationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The core foundational belief kjv@2Peter:1:1-4
  2. ApplicationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The means of applying the core foundation to daily living kjv@2Peter:1:5-11
  3. JustificationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The reasoning we put these foundational elements into constant remembrance and put them forward in our lives kjv@2Peter:1:12-27

Central Text - kjv@2Peter:1:5-11

kjv@2Peter:1:5 @ And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

kjv@2Peter:1:6 @ And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

kjv@2Peter:1:7 @ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

kjv@2Peter:1:8 @ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

kjv@2Peter:1:9 @ But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

kjv@2Peter:1:10 @ Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

kjv@2Peter:1:11 @ For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

You might have wondered where I came up with all that repetitive VirtuousFaith KnowledgeableVirtue benchmark stuff previously in our FoundationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith "Practical Aspects" material. Well here it all is in it's original form in the ApplicationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith. This time we'll be swapping the benchmarks then into the applications now and the foundations then into the benchmarks now. By the time you come back around this all to better examine it you will be most familiar if not annoyed with the repetition, but I think you will agree that it does bring out the deeper contexts most ably.

Now that we have a better sense of these foundational things our benchmarks in this next section will be reversed.

We start at this at the "And besides this".

Think of the "and besides this" as a hing; the door does not swing open unless it turns on it's hinge in relation to the frame. The phrase might be better thought of as "what I have just said is the key to what I am about to say/what I am about to say is the key to what I have already said". Thus my hinge analogy. You might have noticed that the illustration of this door hinge looks suspeciously like the original application tool I had you preview folpfapp1.html .
