Applications Of the Like Precious Faith

(begun by RandyP)

kjv@2Peter:1:1 @ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

This is the second section of three in this series. Please follow them in correct order.

  1. FoundationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The core foundational belief kjv@2Peter:1:1-4
  2. ApplicationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The means of applying the core foundation to daily living kjv@2Peter:1:5-11
  3. JustificationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The reasoning we put these foundational elements into constant remembrance and put them forward in our lives kjv@2Peter:1:12-27

Central Text - kjv@2Peter:1:5-11

kjv@2Peter:1:5 @ And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

kjv@2Peter:1:6 @ And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

kjv@2Peter:1:7 @ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

kjv@2Peter:1:8 @ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

kjv@2Peter:1:9 @ But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

kjv@2Peter:1:10 @ Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

kjv@2Peter:1:11 @ For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

You are probably beginning to see the form of how I am seeking initially to present this. Throughout the FoundationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith section we just completed I was using base elements of the soon to be read ApplicationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith as a measuring stick or contextual ballast. Now we will be doing nearly the same thing in reverse to better consider the development of any practical application. The thing we now must begin with is the phrase "And besides this".

Think of the "and besides this" as a hing; the door does not swing open unless it turns on it's hinge in relation to the frame. The phrase might be better thought of as "what I have just said is the key to what I am about to say/what I am about to say is the key to what I have already said". Thus my hinge analogy. We cannot leave off with what we've all ready considered about all of this being given, all of this being a product of God's righteousness, all of this serving God, all of this by HIS power and resource, all of this being removed from our more corrupted nature through the promise of being able to graciously partake from His. To lose those foundation elements is to revert back to the spiritually unproductive place we are all ready at.

Now is the time to begin considering anything that we are about to do in the light of these preceding foundations up with the further consideration of these newer spiritually based application compounds.
