The Measure of Faith

Faith can be seen. kjv@Matthew:9:2

Faith has a size and a shape. Jesus said "if you had faith the size of a mustard seed...." kjv@Luke:17:6.

Faith can be measured filter:NT little faith filter:NT great faith .

Faith can be refined by heat and the dross melted out kjv@1Peter:1:7 kjv@Proverbs:25:4.

Faith can be tested and weighed in the balances kjv@James:1:3 kjv@1Thessalonians:3:10.

There is alot that we can add to faith to puff it up, make it seem bigger than it really is to others kjv@1Corinthians:4:19 kjv@1Corinthians:8:1.

There are somethings that can be added to faith that will remain kjv@2Peter:1:5 .

There are situations where even the faith that one has can be taken away kjv@Luke:19:26 .

In every man there is a measure of faith that has been given kjv@Romans:12:3.

There are differing ways of interupting this phase:
  1. Faith is not wide open to be anything that we want or need it to be. There are boundries of what acceptable faith means. Jesus himself placed himself under limits during his earthly ministry.
  2. Jesus certainly had the faith to turn stones into His bread but, He knew that Satan was testing Him.

  3. No one person possesses the entirity of faith, we depend on one another for different parts of the faith that we lack kjv@Romans:1:12.
  4. If faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God kjv@Romans:10:17, our faith is limited or measured by the amount of word we digest and store within.

Portions bring to mind some of the parables of Christ Jesus dealng with talents and with planting and harvest. Where a portion is given or planted by a master/owner, revisted later and judged by it's fruitfulness or return on investment.

This verse could be echoing a similar thought were God has given/planted a measure, he expects a acceptable growth and return. In the context of the complete sentence we would assume that this return can be dramatically affected by our mental viewpoint.

And if faith is given/planted by Him, then it would not be something that we came to on our own, there would be no boasting that we were somehow smarter than all the disbelievers.
