Applying God's Word to our daily lives... how do we go about it?
note:(Instead of me jumping on my soap box here and telling all of you what I think about this and that, let me present a possible case for this overall application as best I can. I'll present plenty of my supporting notes. You can read through it then join in on the several discussions generated. Together then maybe we'll find some common application. It should be interesting at the very least!)
Present and Transform
Perhaps the first practical application for all Christian believers to consider is how well they present themselves. kjv@Romans:12 is just the chapter to explore that as Paul states it as "presenting ourselves as a living sacrifice".
In many ways, kjv@Romans:12 is the ideal of the practical daily Christian walk. Oh what it would mean to me personally to be this person of vibrant faith and to be further connected into an effectual fellowship of this size and shape and form.
|Romans:12 Ideal Christian Attributes|
|Verse:||Quality:||Application Notes:||kjv@Romans:12:3||A person of proper perspective presenting themselves and God as being approachable, established, committed.||pcarr:PresentTransform1||kjv@Romans:12:4-8||A person fostering the healthy functioning of the group, allowing room for each members particular gifts and abilities.||pcarr:PresentTransform2||kjv@Romans:12:9||A person that can nurture the affectionate best out of himself and others without being hypocritical.||pcarr:PresentTransform3||kjv@Romans:12:10||A person connected to and engaged in the lives of all others, serving their needs even before his own.||pcarr:PresentTransform4||kjv@Romans:12:11||A person that gets things done energetically with enthusiasm as for the Lord.||pcarr:PresentTransform5||kjv@Romans:12:12-14||A resilient person that radiates and instills hope, a patient confidence, a deep and sustained prayer life. A person that helps facilitate the groups ability to provide and distribute to the needs of other saints and promotes the groups hospitality. A person that willingly suffers the abuse of outsiders for the good of associates and Christ.||pcarr:PresentTransform6||kjv@Romans:12:15-16||A person that exudes compassion and empathy and similitude.||pcarr:PresentTransform7||kjv@Romans:12:17||A person perceived as doing what is honest||pcarr:PresentTransform8||kjv@Romans:12:18||A peace loving person that knows what God's role in this is and allows room for God to do it.||pcarr:PresentTransform9||kjv@Romans:12:19-20||A person that ministers even to the most hard core of opponents contrary to what others would expect.||pcarr:PresentTransform10||kjv@Romans:12:21||A person set out to overcome by good and not be defeated by this world and all of it's incomprehensible evil.||pcarr:PresentTransform11|
These are all powerful and desirable qualities that all Christians should strive to obtain. But, then there is the true practicality of the matter "how do I get from here to there?" and latter "how do I help others to get there from here"?
By the note:MercyOfGod !
There is the way that I've done things all along. Over the years I have established myself as being this. It has served me fairly well with a few exceptions. This is the presentation of myself that people have come to expect.
Being something different though will mean stepping out of my comfort zone. Being transformed does involve experimentation and adaptation and risk.
Most everyone has known that I have been a Christian for some time. I am afraid now however that in all of this time that my presentation of being Christian doesn't look all that different than me being anything other. In light of God's many manifold mercies, this type of conformity is the last thing that that I want to present.
Paul labels these twenty one verses as "Presenting a Living Sacrifice".
Certainly, I don't want to present myself as that "stereotypical Christian", pushy and irrelevant, so then it is important for me to get this right. The list above would suit me just fine as long as I could be real and engaging.
Sacrificial perhaps then would state it best. Sacrificial in light of God's mercies to all; sacrificing who I've been for who God wants me to be.
