The 'It' Factor

Each of us living today must be conscious of our reprobate mind(s) and the trick(s) that they will employ to keep control over us. This is especially true as it comes to our perception of sin; yours' and mine.

It is common for the mind to take a 'divide and conquer' approach to defining sin by identifying sin as several specific objects. It will separate out 'murder' for an example and respond 'well I haven't murdered therefore I haven't sinned'.

The mind will further divide 'this' 'that' and 'this' as sin and justify itself in not having done those things. It really doesn't matter what 'this' 'that' and 'this' is because the mind identified these things simply on the bases that it hasn't done those things; yet.

We see this trick even amongst murderers on death row, drug addicts on skid row, they'll insist "at-least I didn't do that other that".

Sin is always something further out just beyond the reprobate mind's reach. It could do 'that' if it really wanted, but, it hasn't done 'that' so it should be applauded.

The Bible may not however identify sin as any particular 'this' or 'that'; labels that the mind can easily bend by it's assorted tricks. Instead the scriptures lean toward an identification of sin as an 'it'.

Think of sin as you would an ocean. No matter from which cove or beach or cliff or outcropping you look at it, no matter how differently it looks from here and there, it is actually the same ocean. The view changes but, not the actual entity.

Think of the Law of Moses and the many statutes and commands listed in the Old Testament as particular ocean front vantage points. No matter which longitude or latitude you look at it from, no matter which 'thou shall not', it is the same body of water that you are observing.

There are of course many other vantage points possible from which to look at the body of sin, it is just that the Bible has chosen to put tour stops along the most publicly accessible vistas. Don't allow the mind to confuse these tourist 'points of interest' with the enormous breadth and width, variety and unfathomable deepness and horizon-less span of sin itself.

The Scope

Having this framework of sin in it's entirety then, we should consider that the Bible also identifies that all men born upon earth are caught up amidst this sin. Sin in it's truest sense, since the time of Adam, has been for us inescapable.

Sin certainly surrounds us, of this there can be little doubt. We see dear ones to us get swept away in it's tidal currents. We see other innocent ones violently bashed against it's rocky shores. We see our better intentions grinded and pulverized into a chalky powder that lines its' muddied floors.

Perhaps you (or someone you know) at this very moment feels caught in it's strangle hold, it's tangled webbed weed being pulled downward with no hope out. Ask yourself (or them) whether sin is real or not.

But, can we see that it is also within us? That we breath it? We swallow it and digest it? It becomes so much apart of us. We are defined to a large extent unknowingly therefore unwillingly by it.

The carnal mind wills not to grasp this.

In modern western culture we'd falsely argue that 'because I didn't chose of my own free will to participate in sin I do not own a responsibility in sin'.

The responsibility owed sin more truthfully is to accept that sin 'is' what it is; that we 'are' who we are; that the condition being what it is that I choose freely of my own will to plug myself back into God's power to bring me back out of this horrid mire.

Free Will? Yes! Not however to a logical false dilemma constructed by the deceitful reprobate mind. Again, not by the slight of hand or mis-direction of the hearts' desperate vanity.

It is not enough for us to just accept sin for what it is (because the mind will place itself above that). It is not enough for us to accept that God will somehow someday pull us out of this (because that leaves us to continue on with sin here today).

Even more crucial is that we don't just accept sin for what it is, accept God's merciful power for what it is, only to turn around and chase everyone else off by waving some victorious banner of sinless superiority over every one other. This falsity becomes an even more dangerous deceit of the controlling reprobate mind.

The Better Viewing Point

Jesus, as always, painted the proper scope and vantage best; Light and Darkness (kjv@John:3:19-21; kjv@John:12:46). A world void of light being introduced for the first time to something so radically different; God's Light. Uncomfortable at first (to say the least); to a great many despised, it is the 'Light' none the less.

How much radically different is the 'Jesus Light'?

    We should not loose sight of the fact:
  1. that scope of sin is so wide and far reaching,
  2. that the Light of Jesus is so vastly different from what we would expect,

that the human mind is going to try to confuse, co-mingle, even triangulate above the two extremes. The mind is after all very cunning.

Take us 'Christians' for an example. As believers in the redemptive powers of Christ we believe that we are 'new creatures'; that a new seed has been planted.

It would then follow that like with any seed our seed would need to be fed and watered, pruned and tended. The resulting plant would have to grow in order to flourish.

Instead the carnal mind tricks us into thinking that we have magically become the final flower, no further obedience to the transition or process of growth required, that it (the reprobate mind) can continue as it has all along in complete control (or slightly modified - morally).

The Bible implores us to crucify our natures daily at our saviors' cross (kjv@Luke:9:23; kjv@Galatians:2:20), present ourselves to Him a living sacrifice (kjv@Romans:12:1), to take upon ourselves His yoke(kjv@Matthew:11:29). Do we?

Don't you find it curious that in the Bible of all the many publicly accessible 'sin vistas' it could have used to proof out mankind's deceitful SinNature, the Holy Spirit chose to spend so much ink on the sins of the religious?

Think about it - Old Testament/New Testament!

What better illustration do we need, that even amidst our most sincere and genuine devout intentions each of us falls so miserably short.

And if by the religious, how then by the non-religious. (Honestly, we would not have read any further into the Bible had He gotten any more personal and specific than He did).

Mercifully, there is an outlined foundational hope and a transitional process given by His Holy Spirit (Yes, even for us Christians!) requiring our committed and diligent trust and prolonged obedience.

We should consider the profundity of these two statements:

kjv@Hebrews:4:12 @ For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

kjv@Isaiah:55:11 @ So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.


One is left to drawing his/her own conclusion.

...we should now at least have an additional vantage point from which to make our conclusions from.
