Justifications of the "Like Precious Faith"

(Thread begun by: RandyP )

kjv@2Peter:1:1 @ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

We arrive at the point where the academics and theoretical approaches of the "like precious faith" meet the real world, a world of complications and moving against the tides and momentum. This leads us to the question of why? Why undertake this in this manner?

Peter, perhaps more than most anyone would know why this is laid out the way it is and he would have the testimony of both his life and the many others known by him witnessing to it's success. He could tell you from first hand experience what he saw in/of/from Jesus, things that would drop any man prostrate to the ground. He also would know the endless debates and vulgarities of his critics of the very things that he knew himself to be true. And yet he put himself to the task, even to his death, making sure not to be negligent of putting everything in place to stir our future remembrance.

Today, we put the finishing touches on our introductory walk into abundant entrance promised by the "like precious faith". It will have to be your decision to continue from here forward.

Justifications of the Like Precious Faith kjv@2Peter:1:12-21

kjv@2Peter:1:12 @ Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

kjv@2Peter:1:13 @ Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

kjv@2Peter:1:14 @ Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

kjv@2Peter:1:15 @ Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

kjv@2Peter:1:16 @ For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

kjv@2Peter:1:17 @ For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

kjv@2Peter:1:18 @ And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

kjv@2Peter:1:19 @ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

kjv@2Peter:1:20 @ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

kjv@2Peter:1:21 @ For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Study Questions:

  1. If we know and are established, why then the need to be stirred/put into remembrance?
  2. Why did Jesus forbid the retelling of the transfiguration account until after His resurrection?
  3. Even with all the detail given, how much did each individual prophet really know about how events would one day unfold? And how closely as a collective did they come to predicting it ? index:JESUSBYINDEX Prophecy
  4. Why did Peter and the many other fine men and women of that time put themselves to this end for this cause?
