Foundations of the "Like Precious Faith"

(Thread begun by: RandyP - Revised 4/10/2017)

kjv@2Peter:1:1 @ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

kjv@2Peter:1:2 @ Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

kjv@2Peter:1:3 @ According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

kjv@2Peter:1:4 @ Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Contextual Anchors - Foundations v1-4

What the Apostle is about to say is meant for a very specific audience only; "those who have obtained like precious faith with us". Your translation may have it "given the same faith equal to the apostles". Though any casual reader may inquire as to is meaning and use only they that "have obtained" are likely to receive the intended meaning. The reason for this exclusivity is simple: the "like precious" faith is not the type of faith that any man or women with or without faith by carnal means can attain to/manufacture, it is a faith and doing only possible because of and as directed by Jesus the Christ Risen Son of the Living God. If it could be done without Christ then anybody of any faith possibly could do it, but they cannot. Anything not from Christ is from self and anything done without such "obtained" faith is done from sin.

This focus of this series is on Biblical counsel as outlined and given by the Apostle Peter. This is meant to better counsel ourselves, to counsel our friends and loved ones, to counsel others, to counsel our congregations. In this light I would like to survey a few initial verses regarding counsel:

kjv@Proverbs:11:14 @ Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

kjv@Proverbs:12:15 @ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

kjv@Proverbs:13:10 @ Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

kjv@Proverbs:15:22 @ Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

kjv@Exodus:18:19 @ Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
