Called To Glory and Virtue
(child thread of FoundationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith series begun by RandyP )kjv@2Peter:1:3 @ ...through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue
If to ask many people today of the answers that they have formulated for themselves it could be better observed perhaps that they see themselves as called to a 12 Step program or that they are called to a certain marital retreat or such. Not that this would not be a direction our Savior would point one to go, but that one's obedience to that specific direction could well be traveled in much a short sighted or self purposed and resourced fashion; therefore having a severely lessened spiritual production. Our calling instead is described as being much broader and far reaching; it is in fact to "glory and virtue". We should never ever loose sight of that fact!
It should be obvious in light of the scriptures already considered that this "glory and virtue" is not something that we will make for ourselves. There is a huge disconnection between what we see ourselves being/becoming with what God righteously has created and called us to and made provision for us to be and become.
The "like precious faith" takes quite a different direction however between what we are capable of compared to what God is better wanting to influence upon us, as we are soon to see. Already we've seen from Peter that he sees himself as a totally new spiritually born individual pressed into immediate service and apostleship to the Lord of Heaven of Earth/resurrected Son of the Living God given a specific faith derived from the utter righteousness of said God and Savior with whom he has been made to be at a grace and peace and that multiplied further in the Christ knowledge.
Contextual Anchors -
Note: There is an overwhelming amount of scripture needing to be provided here, so where appropriate key foundations have been broken off into digestible pieces. It will become more and more important to keep coming back to these foundations and explore each morsel's greater depth and individual context as they will become the fuel that ignites true spiritual productivity. These pieces then can be used as element specific study/meditation tools.

Practical Aspects
There is nothing that I consider more motivational and encouraging for myself in street level ministry than the realization that we are each called by Christ to such a inconceivable glory and virtue. How this differs from the other many religious faiths is that Jesus already went as far as accomplishing everything required toward making that happen; not that we deserve it or are entitled to it, but that He has made it available.
Interestingly enough, it was Satan that deceived Eve into thinking that God was holding her back from any of that. The slight of hand was made to feel that she deserved something better and had to do something decisively on her own to make something other than what was present happen.
How does Peter's faith differ from ours? It would of course depend upon what stage of transformation you see yourself as being at. Are you at the "just like every one else" spiritual stage? are you at the "being alongside of Jesus making whatever best you can out make of it" stage? or are you in the "Holy Spirit lead and directed as only HE can" stage? Is your perception of an eventual "glory and grace" what you are wanting it to be to serve your own interests? or is it what the "righteousness of God and Savior" is transforming us towards glory and virtue?
Calling as it effects: | If produced by self? | If product of God's influence? | VirtuousFaith | KnowledgeableVirtue | TemperateKnowledge | PatientTemperance | GodlyPatience | BrotherlyGodliness | AgapeBrotherliness |
We are called to an immense glory and virtue, brethren, not something we could produce or imagine ourselves. What a blessing to know this as we begin to consider the Lord's deliverance of us from this our present corrupted state. It is a blessing beginning here and now as this transformation is starting to take shape; in our own lives, in the lives of our dear brethren. It is a blessing as we see the opposing flow of this world's corruption coming up against us making us all the more spiritually resolved. In fact, much of what we presently face is the opportunity and process righteously chosen by God to make that glory and virtue come about.
