Foundations of the "Like Precious Faith"

(Thread begun by: RandyP )
kjv@2Peter:1:1 @ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

Introduction

I have found it helpful in my own faith and in the faith of those dear to me that have sought biblical counsel to have a clear starting point going back uncompromisingly to the core of where our faith is from, what it is in, how it is applied, why we believe it to be what it is. Of late that start or refresh point for me has been at kjv@2Peter:1 the chapter of Peter's "Like Precious Faith". It serves well as a outline of the essentials of fruitful productive well disciplined faith.
Maybe you are at a point where whatever you are believing/doing isn't quite tuned to the frequency of harmonious productive faith. Perhaps there is a situation that you are facing that has suddenly become more than overwhelming or has been wearing at you so long there seems to be no way now to see straight. This what an outline as content rich as Peter's here comes in quick.
I am scrambling to include additional resources for ourselves here, online study sheets that are mapped to biblical resources, companion podcasts of commentary, reader discussion forums; things that can be freely used and always available to either you or the person you are trying to help. Take advantage of these, please!
kjv@2Peter:1 works so well for us because we can divide it up into three essential building blocks

  1. FoundationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - (This page) The core foundational beliefs kjv@2Peter:1:1-4
  2. ApplicationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The means of applying the core foundation to daily living kjv@2Peter:1:5-11
  3. JustificationsOfTheLikePreciousFaith - The reasoning we put these foundational elements into constant remembrance and put them forward in our lives kjv@2Peter:1:12-27

kjv@2Peter:1:1 @ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour [Jesus Christ]:
kjv@2Peter:1:2 @ Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
kjv@2Peter:1:3 @ According as his divine power [hath given] unto us [all things] that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
kjv@2Peter:1:4 @ Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the [divine nature], having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Study Questions:

  1. Why does God give so much importance to the testimony of others when presenting His Word to mankind?
  • What does it mean to be a servant and (Aa)postle of Jesus Christ?
  • How did we obtain faith? Where did it come from? What is our faith in?
  • What is the righteousness between God and Savior? How is it performed toward us?
  • What would Peter mean by Grace and Peace? How would it differ from what we mean it to be?
  • What is the difference between perfect knowledge and knowledge as we operate in?
  • What has divine power given all people that can only be operated in by believers? That effects both our lives and our form of godliness?
  • Who is He of perfect knowledge that has called us into His presence? How can He be omitted from our daily operations?
  • Who is backing the promises that makes them so exceedingly great? And what/who are those promises referring to?
  • What does it mean to partake of His divine nature?
  • How is it that that these incorruptible promises/partakings offer to us escape from the corruption motivating the world as a collective?
  • How are the directions the world's corruptions are leading effecting our personal corruptions now? our faith now?
